Iberian Painted Frog

Description

Available in A3, A4 and A5 framed and unframed

The Iberian painted frog (Discoglossus galganoi) is a small, semi-aquatic amphibian native to the Iberian Peninsula, found in a variety of habitats, including ponds, streams, marshes, and even temporary water bodies. It has a distinctive, somewhat flattened body with smooth skin, usually displaying a mottled or striped pattern in shades of brown, green, or grey, providing excellent camouflage in its surroundings. Growing up to 7 cm in length, it has a pointed snout and slightly webbed toes, making it a proficient swimmer. Unlike typical frogs, it has a rather stiff, waddling movement on land. The Iberian painted frog is an opportunistic predator, feeding on small invertebrates such as insects, worms, and crustaceans. Primarily nocturnal, it remains hidden under rocks, logs, or dense vegetation during the day. Although generally common, habitat destruction and pollution threaten some populations, making wetland conservation crucial for its continued survival in Mediterranean ecosystems.
