Description

Available in A3, A4 and A5 framed and unframed

The large psammodromus lizard (Psammodromus algirus) is a fast-moving and resilient reptile native to the Iberian Peninsula and parts of North Africa. Typically reaching lengths of up to 9 cm in body size (excluding the tail), it has a slender, elongated body covered in rough, keeled scales that provide excellent camouflage in its dry, scrubby habitats. Its coloration ranges from brown to olive, often with faint stripes running along its back and flanks. A highly active and alert species, the large psammodromus is a skilled hunter, feeding primarily on insects, spiders, and other small invertebrates. It is known for its remarkable speed, using quick, darting movements to evade predators. Unlike some lizards, it also demonstrates strong territorial behavior, with males actively defending their space during the breeding season. Despite habitat pressures, it remains a widespread and adaptable species, playing a crucial role in Mediterranean ecosystems by controlling insect populations.
